Martina Franca is the highest city of the plateau of the
Murge, at 431 metres above the sea level.
The city rises on the top of a hill between other sweet and fertile hills that bound ltria Valley, the fabulous "trulli"’s
Valley.
Put between the Jonian and Adriatic seas, Martina Franca is usually full of tourists and
vacationers during the summer for the freshness and the goodness of
its air, for the singular beauty of the
landscape, for the artistic interest of the buildings, for the comfort of an open and
cordial hospitality whose spirit is inside to the character of the
inhabitants, for the serenity and rest that these places offer.
Fortified from twelve square towers built in accordance with Filippo d'
Angiò's will, the city is an authentic jewel of art and beauty.
But it is above all the natural background of Martina Franca
that fascinates the
tourist: the fabulous ltria Valley, between Locorotondo and Martina, a
wide valley scattered with many "trulli" among green vineyards
and secular
trees. It is not rare to find, in the neighborood of Martina Franca,
some farms fortified with groups of "trulli", often constituted from different
rooms (but every room has its roof in shape of cone).
