BRINDISI (& Surroundings)

      It is a very old city, whose historical events are indissolubly bond to its port. 

The old roots of the city are proved by the presence of different monuments and churches that it’s worth visiting. Mentioning some of them: the Aragonese Castle, or "Castle of the sea"; the Swabian Castle or "Castle of the land",  built in

accordance with Frederic II will in 1227 and the Cathedral, that is the Saint Giovanni Battista Basilica, that was the set of the crowning of Ruggiero, Tancredi’s son, as the Sicily’s King.

      Among the most important religious events  taking place in Brindisi : the traditional "Processione a mare" (procession on the sea) that takes place every year in the first week of september to celebrate the Saint Patrons of the city; the "Cavallo Parato del Corpus Domini " (Corpus Domini hangings horse), unique religious usage that occurs in the Corpus Domini day, when the Bishop on horseback shows the Holy Sacrament to all the faithfuls  bringing it all around the city.

      The position of this city allows the tourists to visit the entire region, because of the presence of the airport and of the port, that daily joins Apulia to Greece and becuse of its favourable position as to the main streets of Salento. In few minutes you can get the most beautiful places of Apulia: Ostuni, Lecce, Otranto, Gallipoli, Alberobello and Taranto.
